I think it’s safe to say that picking a captain in gameweek 28 is a lot more tricky. There are so many options to choose from we have:

  • Chelsea defenders
  • Mo Salah and Coutinho

Let’s take a look at some more gameweek 28 captain picks

What Double gameweek 28 player should you captain

It is a tricky gameweek when it comes to picking a captain as the premium assets don’t have double gameweeks- we could see a wide variety of captain picks in gameweek 28. Some FPL managers shared their thoughts on who they’d be captaining on Twitter, feel free to check it here

Well I guess it’s time for us to share our gameweek 28 captain picks.

1. Philippe Coutinho

Philippe Coutinho is one player who would be a decent captain pick in gameweek 28. Aston Villa are up against Southampton and Leeds in GW28.

The Leeds fixture is one we can’t ignore. Leeds have been conceding so many goals in recent times- in their last five games, they’ve conceded twenty goals.

Coutinho starred in the last game he played against Leeds. Picking up 16 points- scoring one goal and assisting two. The Villa midfielder has been involved in four goals since he joined Villa- in the six games he has played he has scored two goals and has assisted two goals.

2. James Ward-Prowse

Southampton has been in good form recently. In their last ten premier league games, they’ve only lost once. And that run is likely to continue with four of Southampton’s next five games having an FDR of 2.

With fixtures like that, it’s hard to look past Southampton assets. And one man who would be part of our gameweek 28 captain picks is James Ward-Prowse.

He has been in good form of late (he has six goals and four assists already this season). And if you’re looking for a double gameweek player to captain he is a good pick.

We all know the threat Ward-Prowse carries from set-pieces which is a great thing to consider when picking FPL assets and captains.

He tops the charts for the most chances created, most points per game (4.4), and total points for Southampton this season.

Even if Ward-Prowse won’t be your captain I think he’s one asset worth keeping or bringing into your team this gameweek.

3. Jose Sa

The fact that premium assets aren’t playing twice in gameweek 28 gives room for a goalie to be a part of our gameweek 28 captain picks. He is a differential pick because I don’t think many FPL managers would be going down this route.

However, Jose Sa might just be a safer captain pick in gameweek 28. Wolves are a team that is good defensively and you can count on them to keep a clean sheet in one of their two games.

Wolves have conceded twenty-one goals in twenty-six games this season they are also conceding an average of 0.81 goals per match which is pretty impressive.

The man behind these impressive stats is Jose Sa. He has made a total of eighty-nine saves, has kept nine clean sheets, and has collected eleven bonus points so far this season(which is the second-highest amongst goalkeepers).

Jose Sa has been impressive this season, his stats speak for themselves. And he is a good captain pick for GW28.

4. Raphinha

Another good gameweek 28 captaincy option is Raphinha. Although Leeds hasn’t been in the best form recently, Raphinha is still a good captain pick.

Raphinha has also been a creative outlet for Leeds despite their poor form. Over the last six gameweeks, Raphinha has created 19 chances- earning just one assist. In that period, only Bruno Fernandes has created more goalscoring opportunities.

Leeds has appointed a new manager(Jesse Marsch) this could spur the team on and lead to greater improvement in their game and hopefully, Raphinha can benefit from that

5. Raúl Jiménez

Raúl Jiménez is a player I wouldn’t be giving the captain armband to in gameweek 28. Wolves have a double gameweek and Raúl Jiménez is a player FPL managers would be looking to get into their team.

Personally don’t think Raúl Jiménez is a really good captaincy pick in gameweek 28. Jose Sa is a much better pick than Raúl Jiménez.

The Wolves man hasn’t reached the levels he set in previous seasons. He is a good player but not a good FPL asset. He has only managed one double digit-haul this season.

Chelsea is another side that could have a double gameweek in gameweek 28 if Chelsea beat Luton or Norwich beat Liverpool in the FA Cup this week, it will mean both sides will get a double gameweek in 28.

6. Mo Salah

Mo Salah has picked up 21 points in his last three games and has four goal involvement- scoring three goals and assisting one. He is a player on form and one worth the captain’s armband in gameweek 28.

If there’s any player who can outscore any double gameweek player, it’s Mo Salah. West Ham is a team he loves to play against- he has scored 9 goals and has assisted 3 goals in 9 games against West Ham.

Rested in the midweek and with momentum building in Liverpool’s season, we’d be expecting a ruthless display from Liverpool this weekend.

Double gameweek 28 Chelsea captain picks

It’s hard to pick assets from Chelsea because they have a pretty huge squad and tend to rotate a lot. So in this Chelsea gameweek 28 captain picks, we’d be looking at nailed on assets.

1. Edouard Mendy

Edouard Mendy is one of Chelsea’s nailed-on starters and arguably the best goalkeeper in the world. This makes him a really good captain pick in gameweek 28.

Chelsea has good fixtures coming up. Seven of their next nine games have an FDR of 2. With fixtures, this good gameweek 28 would be a good time to get on the Chelsea train.

gameweek 28 captain pick: Edouard Mendy fixtures

One player who would possibly start all these games is Mendy and for that reason, if Chelsea has a double gameweek in GW28, Mendy is one player you could give the captain’s armband.

Mendy has looked unstoppable in recent times making saves from almost every angle which is a good thing as he gets extra points from making saves.

2. Antonio Rüdiger

Rudiger is also another good gameweek 28 captain pick. The Chelsea defender is the first name on the team sheet (no player has played more minutes than Rudiger).

Antonio Rüdiger is the third highest scoring center back in the game this season with 108 points. We all know how good Chelsea are defensively they’ve picked up 11 clean sheets so far this season and Rudiger has been a huge part of that.

Antonio Rüdiger also carries a lot of goal-scoring threat, especially from set-pieces. The Chelsea defender has scored two goals this season and has also assisted three.

Rüdiger is one player who could pop up with a clean sheet, a goal, and assist in gameweek 28. And I think he’d be a really good captain pick.

Conclusion

That would be our gameweek 28 captain picks. It is one of those gameweeks where defenders might be the better pick. If I were to pick a player right now I’d go for Antonio Rudiger if Chelsea has a double gameweek.
