Man City’s new signing, Julian Alvarez, is rumored to be sent out on loan. The 21 year old River plate forward Alvarez, who is valued at 20million euros is Manchester city’s first January signing.
The Argentine forward was scouted by the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and Liverpool. However, the young striker decided to join Manchester city who currently don’t have a recognized striker in their team.
Despite having no established striker last season, Manchester City won the Premier League and reached their first UCL final. Their search for a striker began during the last transfer window where Man City were heavily linked with Spurs striker Harry Kane but failed to sign him
Even though they can play smooth attacking football and score a lot of goals, a centre-forward is still needed. Manchester City’s need for a striker becomes apparent when they sometimes struggle to win against teams that sit and defend. Although Pep Guardiola has often said that’s not the case, well, it doesn’t take a tactical genius to know that if City get a deadly attacker they could be unstoppable.
Manchester city’s need for a striker has seen them being linked with the likes of Dusan Vlahovic and Erling Haaland. Despite the availability of these elite forwards City have gone for River plate’s forward Julian Alvarez.

High work rate and flair
Julian Alvarez is a real harder worker. He uses his stamina and aggression to good effect constantly pressurring defenders.

Alvarez’ agggression and stamina is another reason why Man city have gone for the Argentine.

Man City is a team that creates a ton of chances in football games getting to the by-line and flashing crosses across the face of the goal, begging for an attacker to tap it in. And that’s where Man city’s new signing, Julian Alvarez, striking instinct comes into play. With the striker pairing up with elite playmakers and a world-class coach his goal-scoring numbers would only improve.
Man city’s new signing has also featured in a number of tournaments for his national team, Argentina.
He received a call-up from Fernando Batista for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in May 2019. A tournament where he played Four matches and scored one goal, versus South Africa.

Man city’s new signing, Julian Alvarez, made his debut for Argentina’s national football team on June, 3 2021 in a World Cup qualifier against Chile. He was also part of Argentina’s Copa America winning team.
What Does Julian Alvarez’s signing mean for Man city
Reports suggest that the 21 year old might be sent on loan or would remain in River plate till next summer. Manchester city are in no rush to get him in the first team.
The signing of Julian Alvarez wouldn’t affect Manchester city’s plans to sign an established center forward in the summer. With reports suggesting they could still go for Harry Kane or Erling Haaland.
Julian Alvarez is no Harry Kane or Erling Haaland but, he is still a young player with a lot; of potential. And with Pep’s coaching, he could become a world-class player and maybe become the next Sergio Aguero replacement.
