When it comes to bad gameweeks, gameweek 27 is up there- a gameweek that had an average score of 40 and the highest score of 107.
After such a disappointing gameweek 27, it’s time for us FPL managers to dust ourselves and go again. Gameweek 28 looks like the perfect gameweek to right the wrongs of 27.
With six teams having a double gameweek in GW28, this won’t be a bad time to play the bench boost or free hit chip. In this GW28 team selection, we’d be creating a team that is bench boost optimized.
Gameweek 28 team selection and Bench Boost team
We’d be looking at 15 of the best FPL assets for double gameweek 28, and we’d then create our bench boost team. Feel free to check our gameweek 28 captain picks.
Jose Sa
If you’re looking to play your bench boost in gameweek 28, Jose Sa would be a good second goalkeeper pick. Wolves face Palace and Watford in gameweek 28.
Wolves are good defensively, and you can almost always count on them to keep a clean sheet in one of their two games.
Wolves have conceded twenty-one goals in twenty-six games so far this season(they are conceding an average of 0.81 goals per match).
Jose Sa has made eighty-nine saves, has kept nine clean sheets, and has collected eleven bonus points so far this season(which is the second-highest amongst goalkeepers).
Jose Sa has been one of the standout players of the season, and his stats are good and he would a good pick if you’re on a bench boost.
Edouard Mendy
Chelsea’s fixtures are too good to ignore. Seven of their next nine games have an FDR of 2, and with a possible double in gameweek 28, it’s hard not to select Edouard Mendy.

Chelsea’s fixtures scream one thing clean sheets!. In other, for us to take advantage of it, we have to get Edouard Mendy on our GW28 team.
Mendy is one of Chelsea’s nailed-on starters and arguably the best goalkeeper in the world. That makes him a good pick for gameweek 28.
Mendy has looked unstoppable in recent times, making saves from almost every angle, which is a good thing as he gets extra points from making saves.
Antonio Rüdiger
Chelsea would be added to the list of double gameweeks if they beat Luton in the FA cup this week. If they do, their double gameweek fixtures would be Burnley and Norwich. For that reason, we’d be looking to get Chelsea assets into our GW28 team
Rudiger would be the first name in our GW28 team. The Chelsea defender is also the first name on the team sheet for his club (no player has played more minutes than Rudiger).
Rudiger is not just a player who would be staying in our team for just one gameweek- he is a long-term pick. Chelsea has a lot of easy fixtures from now till the end of the season, which makes their assets, especially their defender’s good picks.
Antonio Rüdiger offers more than just clean sheets- he is the third-highest scoring center back in the game this season with 108 points that is because of his two goals and three assists.
Another thing worth noting is that Chelsea still have two games in hand which means they could have two more double gameweeks from now till the end of the season
Lucas Digne
Aston Villa is another team with a double gameweek in GW28. They face Southampton and Leeds- two winnable games.
Leeds hasn’t been in the best of form lately, in fact, in their last five games, they’ve scored five and conceded twenty.
Lucas Digne is a player who can give points from both ends of the pitch. Digne has been a major creative source for Villa this season(Only Mcginn has created more goalscoring opportunities this season amongst Villa assets).
Luca Digne has only gotten one assist since he moved to Villa. We’d be hoping he can add to that tally in GW28.
Lucas Digne is an attacking full-back who loves to put crosses in the box whether it’s from set-pieces or open play he’s also a full-back who carries goal-scoring threat with his free-kick ability.
Matty Cash is a good Luca Digne alternative the other Villa defender has scored two goals and assisted two so far this season.
Ward-Prowse
This feels like the 100th time I’d be writing about Ward-Prowse this week. It is because I feel he’s going to be a good buy not just for gameweek 28 but for gameweeks to come.
Southhampton has been in good form, they’ve lost just one game in their last nine matches, and DGW 28 provides another opportunity to invest in Southampton.

If you’re looking to do that, James Ward-Prowse is a player you could get into your side. Ward-Prowse has ten goal involvement this season with six goals and four assists which means he’s on course to beat his last season’s tally of fifteen goal involvement.
Southampton faces Villa and Newcastle in GW28 and from there on their next three games have an FDR of 2 (they face Watford, Burnley, and Leeds), which means Ward-Prowse is a good long-term pick.
Philippe Coutinho
Philippe Coutinho has been a popular pick amongst FPL managers in gameweek 28 and could even be a good captain pick. Aston Villa is up against Southampton and Leeds in GW28.
The Leeds fixture is one we can’t ignore. Leeds has not been great defensively- they have conceded so many goals this season. In their last five games, they have conceded twenty goals.
Coutinho also had his highest return in FPL the last time Villa played Leeds, he scored one and assisted two in a performance that saw him pick up 16 points.
The Villa midfielder has been involved in four goals since he joined Villa- in the six games he has played, he has scored two goals and has assisted two goals.
Raphinha
It’s no secret, Leeds has been shambolic at the back. However, there’s a little bit of hope at the other end of the pitch as Leeds despite losing badly still creates a decent amount of goal-scoring opportunities.
Raphinha has been a creative outlet for Leeds despite their poor form. Over the last six gameweeks, Raphinha has created 19 chances- earning just one assist. In that period, only Bruno Fernandes has created more goalscoring opportunities.
We all know what impact a new manager can have on teams. Hopefully, the appointment of Jesse Marsch could lead to much better football from Leeds.
Joe Willock
Newcastle has been in good form- they’ve drawn just one of their last five games(Only Liverpool have picked more points in this period).
They have a double gameweek in GW28 and gameweek 29- for that reason, we need to include a Newcastle asset in our GW28 team selection.
In gameweek 28, they face Southampton & Brighton and, in gameweek 29, they play Chelsea and Everton.
It’s is time to get on the Newcastle train and Joe Willock looks like the man to add into our gameweek 28 bench boost team.
Willock has scored two goals in his last two games- he has an xG of 2.4 and xA of 1. Willock looks to have found some goal-scoring form, and we all know how good he can be when he gets into that goal-scoring groove.
Since Allan Saint-Maximin and Wilson are sidelined because of injury, and Chris Wood’s poor scoring form, Joe Willock looks like the best asset to get from Newcastle.
Matt Targett
Matt Targett is another Newcastle player who would be a great player to have if you’re on a bench boost. Newcastle hasn’t been a team that produces that many FPL gems most especially defenders.
But under new ownership and management, they look good and have a decent chance of keeping clean sheets.
They’ve managed to keep two clean sheets in their last four games in the Premier League. Which makes Targett a good player to add to our gameweek 28 team.
As always, when picking defenders, we try to select defenders who have the potential to return on both ends of the pitch, and Matt Targett fits the bill.
No Newcastle defender has created more goal-scoring chances than Matt Target- Allan Saint-Maximin is the only player who has created more chances amongst Newcastle assets.
Che Adams
Che Adams is the man in form with three goals and one assist in his last four games. Adams is going to be one of our three strikers in gameweek 28.
Southampton has been in good form, they have pretty good fixtures coming up, and Adams has been the in-form striker in the game recently, it is that easy he makes our gameweek 28 team.
We all know how hard it has been this season to pick strikers. With premium assets not being good value for money, it means we FPL managers have to look for good in-form cheaper options that would allow us to select more premium defenders and midfielders.
Ollie Watkins
Not entirely sure of this one. But Watkins is a part of our team because of his fixtures and because Villa has a double gameweek.
Out of all the teams that have double gameweeks, I think Watkins and Che Adams are the best strikers we can pick. His fixtures look good as well, most especially the one against Leeds.
