Gameweek 16 is only a couple of hours away and if you’re an FPL manager still contemplating on what FPL assets to buy, captain or sell but you can’t make a move because of injury doubts, then this article is for you.
In this article, we’d be taking a look at some of the press conferences done by Premier League managers this week and we’d use the information they provide, to decide on what to do with our FPL assets who are doubts because of injuries.
Newcastle injury update: Wilson a major doubt for Chelsea game
Last gameweek, Newcastle forward Callum Wilson, was subbed off just before the start of the second half, as he was dealing with illness before the game.
This week however, he still remains a major doubt and this is what his manager Eddie Howe, said in his recent press conference:
We’ll wait and see [if Callum is available]. “He’s been training separately from the group this week. He had an illness, so he’s been away from the group. He’s been working well but I need to make a decision [on] whether he’s fit enough to play.
So it looks very unlikely that the Newcastle forward would feature this gameweek and even if he does play, he probably won’t play the full ninety.
If you have Wilson in your FPL team, then you might want to look elsewhere for a replacement. You could consider Solanke of Bournemouth, Watkins of Aston Villa, Martial of Man United, or you could reduce him to a cheaper forward and bring in an extra midfielder.
You can check out our GW16 transfer target article, in that article we share our thoughts on some of the best players you can bring into your FPL team this gameweek.
Man City injury update: would Erling start this gameweek?
We do think that Man City’s forward, Erling Haaland would start this week against Fulham. Here’s what Pep Guardiola had to say regarding Erling Haaland’s fitness:
We will see. We will see. We have training later this afternoon – we will see
And that’s just typical Pep Guardiola, giving nothing away in his press conference. But we here, do think Erling Haaland would start against Brentford this weekend, so if you own Haaland, then hold onto him there’s no need to sell.
Fulham injury update: Mitrovic a major doubt this weekend
Another player who is a major doubt this weekend is, Mitrovic. We don’t expect him to start this weekend against Man United, so if you’ve got him in your team, then you should be looking for other alternatives.
Solanke, Watkins, Martial or downgrading him to get an extra midfielder are all pretty good options.
Spurs injury update: Kulusevski and Richarlison updates
Antonio Conte: “About Sessegnon, today he didn’t train with us. He had a little problem and he’s not available for tomorrow’s game. Richarlison and Kulusevski have another training session before we decide about the starting XI.”
Again, another answer that isn’t conclusive, but we should see one of them start this gameweek, and if I had to guess which one, I’d go with Kulusevski.
If he doesn’t start, then he’d come off the bench. I think Sessegnon’s pretty obvious that he won’t be playing. If you have Perisic I’d say you still hold onto him, I think he could still play on the wing or as a second striker this gameweek.
Finally we’ve got a rather sad news about James Justin of Leicester who looks like he could be out for the rest of the season. Here’s what Brendan Rogers had to say about his injury:
Sadly, he’ll have an operation tonight. He’s ruptured his Achilles it’s a huge disappointment to us all after coming back from another injury. He’ll have his operation this evening and that will probably put him out for most of the season.
It’s a huge blow. He’s the one player I can rely on, from a defensive perspective, to do the job I want him to do.
