GW14 wildcard draft: some of the best gameweek 14 wildcard to consider

GW14 wildcard team

With three gameweeks left, wildcarding in GW14 is not the worst move to make. In fact, it’s a pretty good strategy that you could deploy as an FPL manager.

Wildcarding in this gameweek, would allow you to get in players that have pretty nice fixtures and are in pretty good form. It would also allow you set-up a pretty good team that would take you all the way from now up until GW16.

If your chip strategy involves you using your wildcard this gameweek, we’ve got you covered. In this article, we’d be creating numerous GW14 wildcard drafts.

We’d create these drafts using different strategies, we’d share GW14 wildcard teams created by experts and we’d talk about the best teams and players to target as you create your GW14 wildcard.

Some important things to keep in mind as you wildcard in gameweek 14

Before creating your GW14 wildcard team, it’s important to keep the form and fixtures of players and teams in mind.

This isn’t going to be difficult to achieve, because saving your wildcard and playing it in GW14, means that you now have enough data and stats that would help you make better decisions.

Here’s a really helpful fixture ticker done by fpltips__, they’ve taken their time to arrange the fixture list based on fixture difficulty:

This makes it easier for us to know what teams have good fixtures and what players we should be looking to target as we play our wildcard this gameweek.

From the fixture ticker, we can see that:

  1. Everton
  2. Man City
  3. Man United
  4. Crystal Palace
  5. Arsenal
  6. Bournemouth
  7. Brighton
  8. Newcastle
  9. West Ham
  10. Liverpool

The truth however, is that some of these teams with nice fixtures aren’t doing all that great. So, instead of just using the fixture difficulty of teams, we’d be taking the form of these teams into consideration as we create our various wildcard drafts.

1. GW14 wildcard draft: going big at the back

GW14 wildcard draft: going big at the back

This is our first wildcard team, and in this one we’ve decided to go big at the back. We’ve brought in premium defenders and a premium goalie as well.

If you do this, it means you’d be spending a decent part of your budget on premium defenders and when you do that, some part of your team would have to suffer.

In this draft, we have two premium defenders, one premium midfielder and a premium striker, which isn’t bad and if it’s a strategy that you want to go with, then it is ok.

We’ve also tried to target players with pretty decent fixtures in this one. We have Everton, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle players in this draft.

Since we’re focusing on defenders, here are some extra defenders that you can consider if you’re on a wildcard this gameweek:

  • Trippier – £5.8m – 60.1% – DEF / NEW
  • Cancelo – £7.4m – 55.5% – DEF / MCI
  • Alexander-Arnold – £7.2m – 19.9% – DEF / LIV
  • Alisson – £5.4m – 15.4% – GKP / LIV
  • White – £4.5m – 7.3% – DEF / ARS
  • Saliba – £5.2m – 31.6% – DEF / ARS
  • Dalot – £4.6m – 10% – DEF / MUN

White, Saliba and Dalot are some other defenders you might want to add to your wildcard team. In terms of goal keepers, Jordan Pickford is also another really good pick.

2. GW14 wildcard draft: going in on midfielders

GW14 wildcard draft: going in on midfielders

In this wildcard draft, we’ve decided to target some of the most in-form players and they’re mostly midfielders. We have a team that has five really good midfielders that you’d probably be playing every gameweek.

And for you to afford this, you’d have to reduce the amount of money being spent on defenders or strikers.

We’ve had to let go of our premium defenders and have gone for much more cheaper defenders who play for teams that have kept a decent amount of clean sheets.

Another thing that’s quite notable in this draft, is that we’ve gone for triple Man City, but this time we’ve dropped Joao Cancelo and have gone for a De Brunye, Haaland and Foden pair-up.

There’s no Salah and no Liverpool cover in this one as well. It doesn’t mean that Liverpool players are bad picks, but in this draft, we’ve decided to pick players that are on form.

We all know that we can only select just five midfielders, here are some other great midfielders you can consider if you’re on a wildcard this gameweek:

  • Saka – £7.9m – 15.8% – MID / ARS
  • Zaha – £7.6m – 23.2% – MID / CRY
  • De Bruyne – £12.3m – 31% – MID / MCI
  • Rashford – £6.6m – 15.6% – MID / MUN
  • Foden – £8.4m – 27.6% – MID / MCI
  • Salah – £12.8m – 32.1% – MID / LIV
  • Almirón – £5.4m – 14.6% – MID / NEW
  • Trossard – £6.8m – 17.8% – MID / BHA
  • Gordon – £5.4m – 2.2% – MID / EVE
  • Iwobi – £5.5m – 1.3% – MID / EVE
  • Martinelli – £6.8m – 48.8% – MID / ARS

Salah, Trossard, Almiron, Gordon, Iwobi, Martinelli are some other really good midfielders that would be great additions to any wildcard team.

3. GW14 wildcard draft: going in on forwards

GW14 wildcard draft: going in on forwards

In this one, we’ve decided to go all in on forwards and so we’ve brought in Darwin Nunez, Haaland and Harry Kane. To accommodate these changes we’ve had to take out Kevin De Brunye and Marcus Rashford.

Which means that we’ve had to go in on much cheaper midfielders and so we have Almiron and Iwobi. Darwin we know is injured, but recent reports have pictured him in training this week, so he might just be good to go.

Kane also comes in as our second premium asset in this draft, which isn’t bad – Kane has only blanked twice all season and so we’ve decided to pair him up with Erling Haaland.

Conclusion

The truth is these various GW14 drafts that we’ve created are all pretty good and each of these strategies have paid off each time this season.

At the start of the season, the big at the back strategy was great but then it slowly faded away as mid-priced forwards started to pick up points and just last week, we’ve seen midfielders perform really well and so if you invested heavily in midfield, you’d have done alright.

These drafts are just for inspirational purposes and you can absolutely take inspiration from these various strategies and create your GW14 wildcard team.
