It’s no news that gameweek 33 is a double gameweek, we’ve known this for a couple of weeks now and many of us might see this double gameweek as a good opportunity to use the bench boost chip.
If you’re one of them FPL managers whose FPL chip strategy involves using the bench boost chip in DGW33, then this blog post is for you.
In this article we’d be looking at four players you should have in your DGW33 bench boost template – we will be concentrating solely on the best players to have on your bench this double gameweek.
What players should you add to your DGW33 bench boost
It’s common knowledge that seven teams have a double this gameweek – the likes of Newcastle, Arsenal, Man united, Southampton, Brighton, Burnley and Leicester all double this gameweek.

With that in mind, we will now take a look at the best four players we can add to our bench from the seven teams that double in double gameweek 33.
DGW33 bench boost : goalkeeper picks
The seven goalkeepers that double this gameweek are Robert Sanchez, Kasper Schmeichel, Fraser Foster, Nick Pope, Aaron Ramsdale, David De Gea and Martin Dubravka.
To be honest they are all decent options apart from a few like Robert Sanchez who plays Spurs and Man City two difficult games against teams that score goals.
The other goalkeepers have one good fixture and one difficult fixture apart from Dubravka and Kasper Schmeichel – Newcastle face Leicester and Crystal Palace while Leicester face Newcastle and Everton.
Realistically it’s between these two goalkeepers. Let’s now compare the two and see which one would be a better player to have on your bench this gameweek.
Saves | Cleansheets | Points | Bonus points
Martin Dubravka | 50 | 5 | 64 | 6 |
Kasper Schmeichel | 103 | 5 | 102 | 10 |
One thing to note is that Kasper Schmeichel has played 13 games more than Martin Dubravka.
They have kept the same number of cleansheets and four points is what seperates Schmeichel from Dubravka in terms of Bonus points.
Let’s take a look at their last five games and see how these two have performed.
Saves | Cleansheets | Points | Bonus points
Martin Dubravka | 11 | 1 | 14 | 1 |
Kasper Schmeichel | 20 | 2 | 27 | 5 |
Kasper Schmeichel from the looks of things is the man in better form, he makes a ton of saves which is great for us FPL managers and Leicester look like they are keeping cleansheets now.
Based on stats, form and fixtures Kasper Schmeichel would be the goalkeeper for your bench boost this gameweek.
DGW33 bench boost : defender picks
As for defenders, we do try to pick full-backs who carry a lot of attacking threat.
There are a couple of stand-out defenders this week and they are James Justin, Timothy Castagne, Fabian Schar, United’s Alex Telles and Southampton’s full-back pair Kyle Walker-Peters and Tino Livramento.
While these are nice options, I do think it would be better to go for one of the cheapest options and that’s Fabian Schar(4.4).
We all have premium FPL defenders in our teams – assets that take huge chunk of our budget – buying Fabian Schar this week allows us to save some money and invest in other areas of the pitch.
Fabian Schar might not be a full-back but he does carry attacking threat – he has scored two goals already this season. The center back is dangerous from set-pieces, whether he’s hitting them himself or he is heading it into the net, he’s a threat.
Newcastle also have the best set of fixtures amongst the seven teams who double in gameweek 33 – they play twice at home this gameweek and their two fixtures have a fixture difficulty rating of two.
DGW33 bench boost : Midfielder picks

When it comes to midfielders Bukayo Saka and James Maddison are the two stand-out picks, they would be great a addition to your team and your bench if you’re playing bench boost.
We all know that Arsenal have been struggling in recent weeks and they haven’t performed as well as many expected. That though is something we’re going to overlook this week.
The game against Southampton is one we’re looking to target. Southampton have been struggling in recent gameweeks and their performance last week against Chelsea was really appalling.
Arsenal no doubt would be looking to bounce back and the match against the saints is the perfect opportunity to do that.
We all know how important Bukayo Saka is for Arsenal – he is the player with the most goal involvement, scoring nine goals and assisting six.
Saka carries the most goal-scoring threat amongst Arsenal assets and has created the most chances for Arsenal this season.
He is a good player to buy and if you have him then you should keep him.
James Maddison is also another good midfielder to have on your bench this gameweek. He has good fixtures, his form is decent and he’s a good long term pick.
James Maddison and other Leicester assets are good players to bring into your team not just for gameweek 33, but for the rest of the season.
Leicester still have a couple of other double gameweeks coming up, they also have good fixtures from now until the end of the season.
DGW33 bench boost : Striker picks
Strikers are hard to pick and recommend. It is almost like a hit or miss with them strikers.
Wout Weghorst has been disappointing, Broja has not performed since we jumped on his train and Ronaldo lacks consistency.
I’m absolutely not sure about strikers and our bench boost striker is base solely on fixture difficulty ratings. The team with the best FDR this week is Newcastle.
That makes Chris Wood our DGW33 bench boost striker. Chris Wood did manage to get his name on the scoresheet last time out against Wolves, in what is his first goal for the club since he joined.
We’d be hoping that the goal opens the way for more goals.
With that we come to an end of our DGW33 bench boost selections.
