We are all aware that as we go deeper into the FPL season, there is going to be a lot of blank and double gameweeks and we’ve seen that already this season, with a few double gameweeks.
We’re currently in gameweek 22 and it is another double gameweek, but this time it’s a small one. However, as teams play more in the FA Cup and the UCL there’d be even more double gameweeks and blank gameweeks.
In this article, we want to take a look at the FPL calendar and we want to see what gameweeks would be blank gameweeks and what gameweeks would be double gameweeks.
This would help us to be able to plan and structure our team pretty well. Before we talk about the upcoming double and blank gameweeks, we want to first explain what a double gameweek is, and what a blank gameweek is.
What is a double gameweek in FPL
A double gameweek in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is a week where a team plays two matches in a single gameweek. This means that FPL managers can earn more points from their players from that team, leading to an increased chance of scoring more points than normal in that gameweek.
What is a blank gameweek in FPL
A blank gameweek in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is a gameweek where a team doesn’t play a match. This means that FPL managers won’t earn any points from their players from that team in that gameweek.
When are the potential double gameweeks in FPL this season
Based on the current information we have, gameweek 22, 23, 25, 29, 34 and 37 are the gameweeks predicted to be double gameweeks. With GW29&34 being the biggest double gameweek of this 2022/23 FPL season.
As we already know, a couple of smaller double gameweeks have already been confirmed, those are the double gameweeks happening in GW22, where Man United and Leeds double, and GW23 where Man City and Arsenal double.
Here’s a really nice tweet from @FPLMate, in this tweet he creates a pretty helpful graphic showing key events that could potentially happen in the FPL world.
When are the potential blank gameweeks in FPL this season
Based on current information, gameweek 25, 28 and 32 are most likely going to be blank gameweeks in the 22/23 FPL season. With the biggest blank happening in GW28.
Why do blank gameweeks happen in FPL
Blank gameweeks in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) happen due to fixture rearrangements, such as matches being postponed or moved to accommodate for cup fixtures or other unforeseen events.
This can result in some teams not having a match in a particular gameweek, leading to a “blank” gameweek for FPL managers with players from those teams.
Here’s a FPL Calendar showing the timeline of events that are likely to take place this season:

What Premier League teams are likely to have blank gameweeks this season
Here are some teams expected to blank in GW28:
- Brighton
- Fulham
- Liverpool
- Man City
- Man United
- Southampton
- Spurs
- West Ham
Still, some of this are speculations and we’d be expecting to get further clarifications as time goes on.
However, there are already fixtures and teams that we expect to play in those blank gameweeks. The teams that won’t be blanking in GW28, are:
- Newcastle United
- Nottingham Forest
- Chelsea
- Everton
- Aston Villa
- Bournemouth
- Arsenal
- Crystal Palace
Yeah, we expect these eight teams to feature in blank gameweek 28.
What teams would be doubling later on in the season
As of right now, we don’t know the teams that would be doubling after GW23. But what we do know, is that GW29, 34 and 37 would be big double gameweeks and that’s something to keep an eye on.
Before the big double gameweek in GW29, there would be a mini double in GW27 and here are the teams that would double:
- Brentford
- Brighton
- Crystal Palace
- Southampton
Here are the teams that double in GW29:
