GW29 is around the corner, it is only a couple of days away. It is a double gameweek so we need to be extra careful as we select players for our team. It is also a gameweek that allows us to play our wildcard, free hit, and bench boost chips as it is the biggest double gameweek in FPL this season.

FPL GW29 tips: The best players to buy in FPL GW29

We can see what FPL managers are trying to do with the players they are buying this gameweek. We can see that they’re trying to buy players who double in GW29.

It’s a pretty good strategy but does this strategy have the long-term in mind? Well, you’d find out later on in this article.

1. FPL GW29 tips and transfer strategy: the best goalkeeper to buy gameweek 29

Well, from the list of transfers shared earlier on, we can see that there are no goalkeepers amongst the top ten GW29 transfers. That’s pretty normal because FPL managers rarely use their free transfers on goalkeepers.

However, if you’re on a wildcard, free hit, or bench boost, you might be on the lookout for a goalie. Here are some of the best goalkeepers to own in GW29 and the long run:

  1. Pope – £5.4m – 21% – GKP / NEW
  2. Alisson – £5.4m – 15.2% – GKP / LIV
  3. Leno – £4.5m – 3.2% – GKP / FUL
  4. Neto – £4.5m – 0.4% – GKP / BOU

These are the four goalkeepers that we’d be recommending for GW29 and future gameweeks. The reason why we’ve got these goalkeepers on our list of great buys is because of their fixtures. All of them have good fixtures with great FDR and also don’t have any blank gameweek coming up.

It is going to be set and forget with these goalkeepers. It all depends on your strategy. You might want a premium goalkeeper, if you want a premium keeper then Pope and Alisson are great picks.

If you want mid-priced goalkeepers, then going for Kepa and one of Leno or Neto would be ideal. The reason is, when Kepa blanks, Leno and Neto can come in to replace him.

Our Advice: We’re huge fans of using budget goalies. Our recommendation would be to pair one of Leno or Neto with Kepa or Steele. Doing this would allow us to use our funds in other areas of the pitch.

2. FPL GW29 tips and transfer strategy: the best defenders to buy gameweek 29

In terms of defenders, it’d be nice to target defenders from the following teams:

  1. Brighton
  2. Liverpool
  3. Chelsea
  4. Man United

This means a defense that has Estupinan, Shaw, Chilwell and Trippier is a solid one. If you want to add a differential in there, then you could go for a Trent Alexander-Arnold. One thing to keep in mind when selecting these defenders is that a couple of them blank in GW32.

Players from Man United, Man City, Chelsea and Brighton won’t be featuring in GW32. For you to get around this blank gameweek and still maintain a strong defense, it’d be good to target bench-fodder players like Ben White, Castgane, or Emerson.

If you do exactly that, when GW32 comes around, you could field a defense comprising Trippier, Ben White and one of Castgane or Emerson.

Our Advice: Target defenders that play twice in GW29. However, you need to be careful not to invest so much in defenders that play for teams that blank in GW32.

3. FPL GW29 tips and transfer strategy: the best midfielders to buy gameweek 29

In terms of the best FPL midfielders to own in GW29, there are a lot of essential picks and they are:

  1. Mitoma
  2. Salah
  3. Rashford
  4. March
  5. Fernandes
  6. Mac Allister

The strategy here is the same as with defenders. When buying midfielders for this gameweek, it’d be nice for you to not buy so many doublers that blank in GW32. If you’re planning to own all these midfielders then you must have a plan to ship them out before blank GW32.

If you don’t have your free hit to use in blank gameweek 32 and you’re relying solely on your free transfer, here’s a strategy you could deploy. You could have a midfield five of Salah, Maddison, Bowen, Rashford and Mitoma(any Brighton midfielder).

Doing this would put you in a good position this gameweek and in future gameweeks as well. It won’t also be a bad strategy to hold onto your Arsenal midfielders.

Our Advice: Keep the long-term in mind when picking midfielders. Don’t allow the double gameweek to cause your team to lose shape or structure in future gameweeks.

4. FPL GW29 tips and transfer strategy: the best forwards to buy gameweek 29

The best FPL forwards to have now and in the long term are:

  1. Isak
  2. Toney
  3. Watkins
  4. Darwin
  5. Haaland
  6. Kane

Anyone of these five forwards would be great buys now and in subsequent gameweeks. The talk of the town lately, has been whether to sell Haaland this gameweek or not.

If we’re being honest, yes if there’s a time to move Haaland on it is now. However, we won’t recommend selling him if you’re on a free transfer. If you’re using your free hit or are playing your bench boost, then not owning Haaland won’t be too bad.

If you aren’t using any of these chips, then you should hold Haaland and look to strengthen other areas of your team. Haaland is in pretty good form and if he’s fit to play against Liverpool in GW29, he can score goals.
