FPL GW27 captain picks: Mitoma, Toney, March, Mac Allister, the best gameweek 27 captain

FPL GW27 Captain Picks

GW27 is finally here and it’s another double gameweek! As FPL managers, we know how important it is to choose the right captain every gameweek, and this week is no exception.

With so many great FPL assets to choose from, it can be tough to decide – Toney, Mitoma, Haaland, Salah, and Mac Allister are all fantastic options to consider for captaincy in this gameweek.

With these many options, the question is, who should you captain in GW27? well, that’s the question we’d be looking to answer in this article.

In this article, we’re going to take a closer look at the players mentioned and try to determine which one to captain in GW27. Let’s get started and find the perfect captain pick for our FPL teams!

FPL GW27 captain poll: Who to captain GW26?

  1. According to the result of a GW27 captain picks poll conducted by ALLABOUTFPL, Ivan Toney is the player that most FPL managers are looking to captain in gameweek 27, the Brentford forward has the most vote, with 30.84% of managers voting him as their preferred GW27 captain.

2. The player who has come in second in the GW27 captain picks poll, is Solly March. The Brighton midfielder is being backed by 27.64% of FPL managers.

3. In third, we have Mitoma, who is being backed by 19.1% of FPL managers

4. In fourth, we have Rashford who is being backed by 5.76% of FPL managers

5. In fifth place, we have Haaland, who has picked up 41 votes so far.

Based on the GW27 captain picks poll, it is clear that Ivan Toney of Brentford is the most popular FPL GW27 captain pick with the majority of FPL managers looking to captain the winger this gameweek.

Five of the best gameweek 27 captain

Now that we’ve heard from FPL managers, we think it is now time for us to share our thoughts on who we think you should be looking to captain this gameweek.

We have a list of five players, and we think that these five players would perform well in GW27 and that they’d be worth the captain’s armband as well.

5. FPL GW27 Captain: Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland is another great GW27 captain pick. The Man City man has been impressive all season scoring 27 goals in 26 games. The truth though is that Haaland hasn’t been as impressive as he was at the start of the season.

In Haaland’s last five games, he has returned 26 points which isn’t as good as his first five games where he returned 58 FL points. His form has without a doubt dropped, we’re hoping that he can find some form this gameweek.

FPL GW27 Captain: Erling Haaland

The signs however don’t look great if we’re being honest. In his last three games, Haaland has accumulated an xG of just 1.66 which is quite poor for a player of his standard.

We know that players like Haaland can turn their form around at any time – we’d be hoping that he can do that against Crystal Palace in GW27.

This Haaland captaincy is a tricky one because his underlying numbers aren’t great(there are players with better underlying stats), we’re backing him because of his previous track record and because he plays for one of the best attacking sides.

4. FPL GW27 Captain: Mo Salah

Mo Salah has made it to our list of great GW27 captains and that’s because of his impressive form and display last time out against Man United.

Liverpool and Salah were sensational on that day and as an FPL manager, I was very pleased with the way Salah played. In that game, Salah scored twice, assisted twice, returned 21 points, and took all three bonus points.

This gameweek, Liverpool faces Bournemouth, a side that they put nine past earlier this season. It is important to note though, that in that victory earlier on, Mo Salah failed to have any form of attacking return.

Well, this time around we’re confident that Mo Salah can get a form of attacking return. The form he has been in is just too hard to ignore, we think that’d he continue to impress this week against a shaky Bournemouth defense.

FPL GW27 Captain: Mo Salah

He is one of the best GW27 captains out there and he can definitely rival players that play twice this week.

He would make a great differential captain this gameweek as well since the majority of FPL managers would be looking to captain a double gameweek player.

3. FPL GW27 Captain: Katoru Mitoma

This is where it gets a little bit spicy and interesting. In third place, we’ve got our first double gameweek captain and that’s Mitoma of Brighton. His underlying numbers are pretty solid.

In fact, in his last six gameweeks Mitoma has accumulated an xG of 2.04, has had four big chances, taken twelve shots, six of those shots were in the box, he had an xA of 1.04, he has created one big chance, and has had 46 touches in the penalty area.

These underlying numbers add to the appeal of the Brighton winger. In his last five games, he has had three double-digit hauls, which is more than any Brighton player.

When a player has such good numbers it is hard to not captain him. The truth though is, he has the worst underlying numbers out of the three popular Brighton midfielders. We’d compare all three next.

2. FPL GW27 Captain: Solly March

In second, we’ve got the player with the best underlying stats out of the three popular Brighton midfielders. March is one of those players that the majority of FPL experts are recommending as the best pick of the three Brighton midfielders.

And to be fair, his underlying numbers actually increase his appeal and make him a very good GW27 captain pick. Given all the data March stands out in terms of numbers.

Hands down he’s the preferred pick out of the 3 as he’s got a higher probability of getting involved in a goal in gw 27 as both Leeds and Crystal Palace are weaker on March’s side. He’s also on set pieces which is always helpful.

In terms of expected points for them three, in the next four gameweeks:

  1. March – 24.4
  2. Mac Allister – 23.7
  3. Mitoma – 23.4

Out of all three, March looks like he’s the one most likely to do well this gameweek and for that reason, we’d be backing him as our second-best GW27 captain.

1. FPL GW27 Captain: Ivan Toney

To wrap up our captain picks article for this gameweek, we’d be hearing from experts as they share the reason why they think Ivan Toney of Brentford is the best GW27 captain pick.

@FplMode “Ivan Toney (£7.7m) is my captaincy choice this week. On penalties and Brentford’s talisman. Everton have the second worst xGC this season and Southampton have conceded 11 goals in their last 6 home games. Trust Ivan.”

@Pras_fpl “Toney (£7.7m) has made the decision easier having avoided a yellow card vs FUL. Now he should be good to play both games vs relegation-battling Everton and Southampton. With pens and bonus potential whenever he does return, he’s a front-runner for me.”

Toney without a doubt is the best GW27 captain ick out there. His form, his fixtures, and his underlying numbers are all great. He also has the added bonus of being on penalties as well.

If you have Toney then he should be on top of your list of GW27 captains.
