FPL GW25 wildcard team: the best gameweek 25 wildcard FPL teams

GW25 wildcard team

With blank gameweeks and double gameweeks coming up, it is important for us to start planning ahead and getting our FPL teams together. One way that we FPL manager can do this, is by making use of the wildcard chip.

In this article, we’d be creating three GW25 wildcard teams, we’d also be using different strategies as we create our teams.

In our first GW25 wildcard team, we’d be going big at the back, in the second team, we’d be investing in midfielders and lastly, in the third team, we’d be going all in on forwards.

Some important things to keep in mind as you play your FPL wildcard in gameweek 25

As you create your GW25 wildcard team, here are couple of things you should keep in mind:

  • First, you want to try as much as possible to select players that are guaranteed a place in the first eleven of their teams.
  • You want to keep the long term in mind when selecting players for your GW25 team.
  • You want to try to have a solid bench, in case of rotations, injuries and upcoming double gameweks.
  • You want to keep it in mind that GW25 is a blank gameweek for Brighton, Man United, Newcastle and Brentford.
  • You also want to have it mind that Liverpool, Wolves, Arsenal and Everton double this gameweek.

The best teams to target for your GW25 FPL wildcard team

To help you know the teams that have double gameweeks coming up and the teams with good fixtures, here is a really nice fixture ticker done by fpltips__:

Here are some of the teams with good fixtures in FPL from GW25-GW31:

  1. Arsenal
  2. Liverpool
  3. Everton
  4. Spurs
  5. Wolves

It’d be a really good idea to target FPL assets from the teams listed above, as these teams have great fixtures and their players would be great long term FPL picks.

You also want to keep it in mind that some of the teams that blank in GW25, double in GW27 and that there is going to be another big blank gameweek in GW28.

You can find out more about these blank and double gameweeks, in this article: FPL tips: preparing for FPL 22/23 blank and double gameweeks GW22-28.

1. GW25 wildcard team: Going big at the back

GW25 wildcard team: Going big at the back

This is our first GW25 wildcard team and in this one, we’re trying to go big at the back. This strategy entails targeting premium defenders from top teams, defenders that have a high chance of scoring, assisting or getting clean sheet points.

In this wildcard team, you can clearly see that, that is exactly what we’re looking to do. We’ve got a really good goalkeeper in Alisson, he’s a keeper that can keep clean sheets and also get you save points.

In defense, we have one premium (Trent) and two budget defenders alongside him(Tarkowski and Kilman). And they are defenders that could get us clean sheet points this gameweek.

You can also see that with this GW25 wildcard team, we’ve got the long-term in mind and that’s why we’ve left players like Trippier, Rashford and Shaw in our team.

We know that the next double gameweek is in GW27, so you’d need to have a plan to get in some of the best doublers into our team, when that gameweek comes around.

The likes of Mitoma, Toney and Raya are amongst players you should be looking to target.

So, in the future you might want to take Grealish out for a Mitoma, Nketiah could be upgraded to a Toney or you could upgrade Cunha to a Toney, but that would require you make more transfers.

2. GW25 wildcard team: Investing in midfielders

GW25 wildcard team: Investing in midfielders

This is our second GW25 wildcard team and to be honest it isn’t one that we’re too confident about. It’s a team that isn’t quite balanced, as you can see the defense is looking a bit shaky as there are a lot of budget players in there.

We’ve got so many budget players in our defense because we’re trying to get in Mo Salah. We know that he could be very essential this gameweek and so we’ve tried to add him into our GW25 wildcard team.

His addition and that of Toney has taken a big part of our budget. As you can see, with this team, we’re not fielding a team of 11 players and honestly we don’t think it’s going to be an issue.

If with your free transfer and a minus 4, you’re able to field at least eight players this gameweek; we think you’d be alright.

Just know that the players you should be bringing into your team with your free transfers, should be essentials not just budget players.

The strategy with this team is, you’d save your transfers and when GW27 comes along, you’d be looking to bring in Mitoma and Raya.

3. GW25 wildcard team: going in on forwards

GW25 wildcard team: going in on forwards

This is the final GW25 wildcard team and in this one, we are going in on forwards. We are trying to get some of the best forwards who have decent fixtures and a high chance of scoring a goal this gameweek.

Our forward line consists of Haaland, Nketiah and Cunha and to be honest if you can, you can also get Darwin Nunez into your team – we think he is a great forward to have this gameweek.

We think this is a pretty decent team that would be great in the long run as well, we’ve got 1.4million in the bank and that can be used to get players in the future. You might also want to reduce Ruben Dias and go for a much cheaper player.

Maybe an Emerson from West Ham or another Man City defender, like an Ake or Akanji. If you do that, you’d get extra funds that you can use to strengthen other areas of your team.

The bench is also solid, as we’ve got future gameweeks in mind as well. The likes of Rashford, Mitoma, Trippier and Raya would all come good later, so it’s good to still have them in the team.

Remember that our wildcards are meant to serve as inspiration, and we hope that the teams we’ve created have been able to give you an idea on what players and strategy to employ this gameweek.

Wildcard vs Free hit GW25

If we had to pick one chip to use this gameweek, it’d be the free hit chip. The reason is that with the free hit chip, you can easily set up a team that’s ideal for this gameweek and this gameweek only.

You don’t have to worry about the long-term. You can quite easily stack your team with a lot of double gameweek players. You can check out our free hit drafts here: GW25 free hit team: the best players and teams to target for your gameweek 25 free hit.

We also want to let you know that we do think that it is a better strategy to hold onto your wildcard and free hit chip. Using those chips this gameweek is a bit tough, as you can see the teams being created aren’t as strong.

There are much better times to use your wildcard and free hit chip – we share our thoughts on the ideal times to deploy these chips in our: FPL chip strategy: the best time to use your FPL chips GW23-38

Again, we do believe that if you can field a team of at least eight guaranteed starters this blank gameweek, then you’d do alright.
