With blank gameweeks and double gameweeks coming up, it is important for us to start planning ahead and getting our FPL teams together. One way that we FPL manager can do this, is by making use of the wildcard chip.
In this article, we’d be creating three GW24 wildcard teams, we’d also be using different strategies as we create our teams.
In our first GW24 wildcard team, we’d be going big at the back, in the second team, we’d be investing in midfielders and lastly, in the third team, we’d be going all in on forwards.

Some important things to keep in mind as you play your FPL wildcard in gameweek 24
As you create your GW23 wildcard team, here are couple of things you should keep in mind:
- First, you want to try as much as possible to select players that are guaranteed a place in the first eleven of their teams.
- You want to keep the long term in mind when selecting players for your GW24 team.
- You want to try to have a solid bench, in case of rotations, injuries and upcoming double gameweks.
- You want to keep it in mind that GW25 could be a possible blank gameweek for Brighton, Man United, Newcastle and Brentford.
- You also want to have it mind that Liverpool, Wolves, Arsenal and Everton double in GW25.

1. GW24 wildcard team: Going big at the back

In this GW24 wildcard team, we’ve decided to go big at the back, that involves targeting premium defenders from some of the top teams.
However, in this wildcard team, we haven’t gone all in on premium defenders – as you can see, there is a nice balance of premium and budget defenders in this GW24 team.
We’ve got players that play for teams with nice fixtures in gameweek 24 and players that have nice fixtures and double in gameweek 25. In this wildcard team, you’d see that we’ve still got players from teams that blank in GW25.
We can do this because we’ve got a solid bench and a nice transfer strategy for DGW25. Here’s how this GW24 wildcard team would like in GW25:

You can clearly see that the GW24 wildcard team we created, has the long-term in mind. You can see that with the wildcard, we’ve been able to plan for both gameweek 24 and blank gameweek 25.
In gameweek 25, we’ve got ten players that are going to feature and to be honest, that’s not a bad number to have in a blank gameweek.
However, if you’re not comfortable with having ten players, then you can take out Toney for Darwin and you can make this move because of the 2.7million left in the bank.
This is a really solid wildcard team and it’s one we expect to do well in GW24 and GW25.
2. GW24 wildcard team: Investing in midfielders

This is our second GW24 wildcard team, this one is a little different from the first one that we created. In this one we’ve brought in Mo Salah and we’ve taken out Arnold, Mitoma and Barnes to fund this move.
The other players that we’ve brought into this team, are: Lewis of Man City and Andreas from Fulham. To be honest, this GW24 wildcard team isn’t bad; it’s quite solid.
With this team, you’ve got a player that you could captain quite easily in GW25 and that’s Mo Salah. You’ve also got a pretty solid bench that would still keep you covered when blank gameweek 25 comes around.
To find out if Mo Salah is an essential pick this gameweek, you can check out this article: FPL GW24 transfer tips: who should you buy in gameweek 24
Here’s how your team would look in blank gameweek 25:

You can see that in GW25, you have eleven players that could possibly start. We’ve said possibly, because Rico Lewis plays for Man City, so he could be rotated or benched.
If you aren’t comfortable with having Rico Lewis in your team and want a more guaranteed player, then we’d suggest bringing in Calvert Lewin for Toney and then you can start Andreas.
As of now, Lewin is a doubt – that’s something you might have to keep an eye on before making that move.
3. GW24 wildcard team: going in on forwards

This is our last and final GW24 wildcard team and in this one, we’re going in on forwards. You can see that the forward line consists of some of the most in-form forwards in the game.
In order for us to setup our team like this, we’ve had to make a few tweaks. Some of the changes made are: Mo Salah out for Gakpo, Trent in for Lewis and McNeil in for Andreas.

Doing this puts us in a really good place in GW24 and GW25. Here’s how the team would look in gameweek 25:

With this team, you don’t need to make any transfers ahead of GW25, and that’s because we’ve used our GW24 wildcard to setup this team really well.
We think it’s a really solid wildcard team and it’s definitely one of our favorites wildcard draft.
