FPL GW23 wildcard team: some of the best gameweek 23 FPL teams

GW23 wildcard teams and strategies

With blank gameweeks and double gameweeks coming up, it is important for us to start planning ahead and getting our FPL teams together. One way that we FPL manager can do this, is by making use of the wildcard chip.

In this article, we’d be creating three GW23 wildcard teams, we’d also be using different strategies as we create our teams.

In our first GW23 wildcard team, we’d be going big at the back, in the second team, we’d be investing in midfielders and lastly, in the third team, we’d be going all in on forwards.

Some important things to keep in mind as you play your FPL wildcard in gameweek 23

As you create your GW23 wildcard team, here are couple of things you should keep in mind:

  • First, you want to try as much as possible to select players that are guaranteed a place in the first eleven of their teams.
  • You want to keep the long term in mind when selecting players for your GW23 team.
  • You want to try to have a solid bench, in case of rotations and injuries and upcoming double gameweks.
  • You want to keep it in mind that GW25 could be a possible blank gameweek for Brighton, Man United, Newcastle and Brentford.
  • You also want to have it mind that Liverpool, Wolves, Arsenal and Everton double in GW25.

The best teams to target for your GW23 FPL wildcard team

To help you know the teams that have double gameweeks coming up and the teams with good fixtures, here is a really nice fixture ticker done by fpltips__:

Here are some of the teams with good fixtures in FPL from GW23-GW28:

  1. Arsenal
  2. Manchester City
  3. Spurs
  4. Chelsea
  5. Wolves

It’d be a really good idea to target FPL assets from the teams listed above, as these teams have great fixtures and their players would be great long term FPL picks.

You can find out more about what players to target from these teams in our: FPL GW23 transfer tips: who should you buy in gameweek 23

1. GW23 wildcard team: Going big at the back

GW23 wildcard team: Going big at the back

Here’s our first GW23 team and from this team, you can see that we’ve picked our FPL players, with the long-term in mind. In this team, we have a decent amount of double gameweek 23 players – we’ve got triple Arsenal and Man City players.

We’ve also got a decent amount of players blanking in GW25. In fact, we have just three and that’s something our bench would take care of come GW25.

The team is also great, because you’d have seven double gameweek players in your team in GW25, and that’s without you using any transfers.

There’s no doubt that with proper planning, you can bump that number up. But we want you to remember that sometimes double gameweeks can be a trap and if you invest too much in double gameweek players, it could come back to hurt you.

Here’s what this team would look like in GW25:

blank gameweek 25 team

The only problem here, is the fact that you don’t have any Liverpool cover. To get Liverpool cover, you can take out Kane for Darwin and maybe increase Mahrez to a Mo Salah – it all depends on how Liverpool are playing.

If they find some form then that’s not a bad move, but if they’re still struggling then you might not want to mess your team and take out an in-form Harry Kane.

Remember that we’ve picked these players based on current form and recent performances, which means that their form could change and the players that seem like decent picks now, might not be great picks come GW25.

2. GW23 wildcard team: Investing in midfielders

GW23 wildcard team: Investing in midfielders

Here’s our second wildcard strategy and team. The strategy in this one relies on you holding onto your two transfers before GW25.

You can see that there really isn’t any difference between this wildcard team and the one above, except Calvert Lewin is in for Kane. And this move has been made, because of how we want to setup in GW25.

In GW25, we’re planning to bring in two Liverpool assets and those two assets are, Mo Salah and Alisson making this move would mean we have more double gameweek players.

But it comes at a cost. Doing this, would mean that we lose an in-form Rashford in blank gameweek 25. If that’s something you can live with, then fair enough.

Here’s what our GW25 team looks like:

It is actually a pretty decent team and this strategy is one that we really like.

3. GW23 wildcard team: going in on forwards

GW23 wildcard team: going in on forwards

This is our third wildcard team and in this one, we’re using a different strategy. We’ve reverted back to the very first team, but we’ve made a few tweaks.

First, we’ve upgraded our second goalie to Pickford and we’ve got Kane in once again – you really need Kane this gameweek, as he plays against one of his favorite opponents, Leicester.

However, you’d once again need to make or save your two free transfers before GW25, in order for you to make the changes we’re about to recommend.

The two transfers you’d be making before GW25, is Kane to Darwin and then Rashford to Mo Salah. Once you’ve done that, your GW25 team would look like this:

Which is very similar to the team created the last time, but instead of Alisson and Calvert Lewin, we have Pickford and Darwin in our team.
