GW23 is finally here and it’s another double gameweek! As FPL managers, we know how important it is to choose the right captain every gameweek, and this week is no exception. With so many great FPL assets to choose from, it can be tough to make a decision.

Haaland, Saka, Odegaard, De Bruyne, and Rashford are all fantastic options to consider for the captain’s armband this gameweek.

In this article, we’re going to take a closer look at these players and try to determine who would make the best captain for GW23. Let’s get started and find the perfect captain pick for our FPL teams!

FPL GW23 captain poll: Who are FPL managers captaining in GW23?

1. According to the result of a GW23 captain picks poll conducted by ALLABOUTFPL, Erling Haaland is the player that most FPL managers are looking to captain in GW23, the Man City forward has the most vote, with 74.11% of managers voting him as their preferred GW23 captain.

2. The player who has come in second in the GW23 captain picks poll, is Bukayo Saka. The Arsenal winger is being backed by 10.94% of FPL managers.

3. In third, we have Rashford, who is being backed by 4.02% of FPL managers

4. In fourth, we have Odegaard who is being backed by 4.02% of FPL managers

5. In fifth place, we have Nketiah, who has picked up 9 votes so far.

Based on the GW23 captain picks poll, it is clear that Erling Haaland of Man City is the most popular FPL GW23 captain pick. With majority of players looking to captain the forward this gameweek.

Five of the best gameweek 23 captain picks

Now that we’ve heard from FPL managers, we think it is now time for us to share our thoughts on who we think you should be looking to captain this gameweek.

We have a list of five players, and we think that these five players would perform well in GW23 and that they’d be worth the captain’s armband as well.

5. FPL GW23 captain: Kevin De Brunye

Kevin De Brunye is our fifth choice GW23 captain. The Belgian has not been in the best of form of late, but we think that he could find his form this gameweek.

Man City also have not been playing that great, we believe that they would want to make amends and put their bad form to rest and if they’re going to do this, they’d need their best players to step up and that’s when De Brunye comes into the picture.

Man City face Aston Villa and Arsenal this gameweek and those are two fixtures that De Brunye can do well in without a doubt. But the issue though, is his form – De Brunye has not had more than one assist in a PL game since GW14.

So we think it’d be better to captain other players that have been performing on a consistent basis.

His stats aren’t all that great and in recent weeks, he also hasn’t been as nailed on as he used to be. We think he is a great player to have in your team, but in terms of captaining him, we think there are better options out there.

4. FPL GW23 captain: Nketiah

Another player that would make a great GW23 captain, is one of the Arsenal boys and that’s Eddie Nketiah.

Nketiah is a man that has been in pretty good form, a man that has pretty good underlying stats and a player that has been scoring goals of late.

If you’re looking to captain a forward this gameweek, then Nketiah is a pretty good shout. In this week’s goal scoring odds rankings, Nketiah has a 58% chance of scoring a goal, which puts him in second place on the list.

He’s also predicted to pick up a decent amount of FPL points this gameweek as well. He is predicted to return 10.2 FPL points, which once again, has him in second place for the players expected to pick up the most points.

His stats from his last five gameweeks, are alright but aren’t as impressive and consistent as we would like.

We do think again that he’s going to be a great transfer and a good player to have in your GW23 team. However in terms of captaincy, we still think there are better options.

3. FPL GW23 captain: Odegaard

Martin Odegaard is another really good GW23 captain shout. He is a man that has been in pretty good form of late, he’s also added goals and assists to his game, which now makes him a good FPL asset and a great GW23 captain.

In his last five games so far, Odegaard looks like the best FPL asset on our list of captain picks this gameweek. The Arsenal man has picked up 31 points in his last five, scoring 2 and assisting 2 as well.

Arsenal have two home games in GW23 and we’re hoping that Odegaard can once again turn up and deliver FPL points.

In terms of point predictions, Odegaard is predicted to return 10.0 FPL, he is also amongst this week’s anytime scorer, he has a 46% chance of scoring a goal this week, which isn’t bad.

When a player is in such good form, it is really hard to overlook him and with the way this season has been going, we’ve since learnt that it’s not bad to jump on the in-form players train.

Odegaard is one of those in-form players right now, and so we think he’d make a great captain in GW23.

2. FPL GW23 captain: Bukayo Saka

In second place, we’ve got another in-form player, in Bukayo Saka. Saka just like Odegaard, is a player that has been in pretty good form and has also been scoring and assisting a handful of goals for Arsenal.

We have Saka in second place, because of his style of play and his desire to score goals. When watching Saka and Odegaard play, you can tell that Odegaard is always looking to play someone in, and most times that leads to him assisting the assist.

Saka on the other hand, is a more direct player who is looking to beat his man and shoot, for these reasons we do think Saka is the much better captain pick.

And that’s because his chances of getting a goal is way more than that of Martin Odegaard. In fact Saka has a 53% chance of scoring a goal this gameweek, while Odegaard has a 46% chance.

Only Haaland and Nketiah have better goal scoring odds than Saka this gameweek.

1. FPL GW23 captain: Erling Haaland

In first place, we’ve got Erling Haaland. He is without a doubt our go to GW23 captain. We know Man City and Haaland aren’t in the best of form as of now, however we still do think that he’s the best GW23 captain pick out there.

We all know how lethal this man can be and so we won’t be going against him now; not in a gameweek where he has two chances to play and score goals.

His opponents are tough and the games could be tricky, however at the end of the day, it is Erling Haaland and Man City; we know for sure that they can score and put so many goals past any team.

We think he’s the safest captain pick out there, as so many FPL managers would also be backing him. Which means your rank would not be heavily affected if he doesn’t turn up.

FPL GW23 differential captain picks

1. Harry Kane: Kane is another in-form player who plays against one of his favorite opponents this week, in Leicester City – the Spurs man has scored a whopping 18 against Leicester in the PL.
2. Marcus Rashford: Rashford is another great GW23 captain pick. He’s a man in red hot form who just can’t stop scoring. He plays Leeds once again in GW23 and if you watched the last game, you’d know that the potential for Rashford to score again is high.
3. Mitoma: This is a super differential captain pick and we think he is one worth considering this gameweek. Brighton are up against Palace this week and you won’t put it past Mitoma to get a goal or two.
