FPL GW16 captain picks: Jesus, Haaland, Kane, Salah the best gameweek 16 captain

GW16 Captains

The final gameweek before the World Cup is here and as FPL managers, we want to try as much as possible to finish this gameweek as high as possible.

We also know that selecting the right captain is very important if we are to have a good gameweek and that’s exactly what we’d be looking to do in this article.

In this article, we’d be looking to see which of these five players: Salah, De Brunye, Haaland, Kane and Jesus is the best GW16 captain.

Five of the best gameweek 16 captain picks

5. Gabriel Jesus

Gabriel Jesus is going to be fifth on our list of GW16 captains and that’s because of his lack of goals in recent games.

We know the Arsenal man has failed to score in his last 5 games, but what really makes him appealing, is the fact that he’s consistently getting those goal scoring chances in games.

The more chances he gets, the higher his chance of scoring a goal. Arsenal face Wolves this gameweek, and it is looking a bit tricky because Wolves have only just got themselves a new head coach(Julen Lopetegui).

And we all know how most teams perform when a new coach is appointed, many atimes they seem to do well, so we really don’t know what Wolves side we’re going to see this gameweek.

But what we do know is that, Wolves have been a bit leaky in defense this season and Arsenal have been creating a huge amount of chances this season.

So all things point in the direction of Arsenal scoring a couple of goals against Wolves this gameweek. Jesus is a good captain pick and would be a nice differential captain, if you’re not interested in going for the popular picks.

Last time out, Jesus took 3 shots against Chelsea, had 2 big chances, and had an xG of 0.49. His underlying stats are decent and if you’re willing to go against popular picks, he’s a good option.

4. Kevin De Brunye

Well, in fourth we’ve got Man City’s Kevin De Brunye. De Brunye would be a nice captain pick for those who don’t have Salah and are not sure if Haaland would start.

The Belgian has been in sensational form in recent gameweeks, picking up 35 points, scoring 2 goals, assisting 2 and collecting a total of 7 bonus points in his last five games.

Man City play Brentford and you could even argue that De Brunye would outscore Haaland this gameweek, he’s just that good.

Like we said earlier, if you’re not comfortable captaining Haaland who’s a doubt, then De Brunye is the best gameweek 16 alternative.

He was rested midweek and so he’s expected to start this gameweek, if Pep doesn’t do the most “Pep” thing and rotate him. You could also keep an eye on predicted line-ups done by ALLABOUTFPL they do get these things right sometimes.

Or you could check out @Teamnewsandtix they also share leaked line-ups a couple of hours before the deadline.

3. Harry Kane

Harry Kane has been one of my favorite premium FPL asset this season. He has been very impressive and consistent – the Spurs man has blanked just three times this season and has delivered a total of 91 points.

And because of his consistency, he has a place in our list of gameweek 16 captains. However, it is one that we’re not too convinced about, most especially because of Spurs’ form and style of play.

Don’t get me wrong, he has been scoring goals, but Spurs’ don’t start games well and they aren’t all that attacking and so we don’t think he’d outscore the likes of Salah, Haaland or De Brunye.

Kane would still be a really nice captain and that’s because of the team Spurs face this gameweek, Leeds.

And also the fact that a couple of their attacking players would also return this gameweek, that could give them a major boost and it could also mean that Kane does a little bit more.

2. Mo Salah

In second place, we’ve got Mo Salah, a player who looks to have found some form in recent gameweeks. We’re seeing him play a lot more closer to goal now, which is one of the reasons why he is scoring a lot more.

For the first time this season, the Egyptian managed to get himself back-to-back goals in the Premier League and that’s a really good sign for those contemplating going for the Egyptian winger this gameweek.

Another good thing is, you don’t have to worry about him getting benched. He is a constant and would most definitely feature in every Liverpool game.

He’s a good pick, but I personally no longer have complete trust in Mo Salah like I used to in previous seasons and so I won’t be going for him.

He does play Southampton this gameweek at Anfield and that is one really good fixture for Mo Salah and to be honest I’m a bit worried cause I don’t have him in my team.

Feel free to check out our FPL GW16 transfer target article, we do share our thoughts on players that we think FPL managers should be looking to transfer into their team this gameweek.

If you have him, then you should captain him because he in my opinion, he is the second best captain pick for gameweek 16.

1. Erling Haaland

There’s no doubt that Erling Haaland is the player that a lot of FPL managers would be looking to captain this gameweek. A poll conducted by ALLABOUTFPL, has him in first place with 347 FPL managers voting him as their GW16 captain.

He is without a shadow of doubt going to be the most captained FPL asset this gameweek and it’d be a tad risky to go against him, because if he does perform better than your alternative pick, then you’re going to go down the overall leaderboard.

The issue though with Erling Haaland, is would he start in GW16?

Yes, I do think Haaland is going to start this gameweek and that’s because he played 25 minutes last weekend and he didn’t feature against Chelsea during the week. So he has gotten enough rest and he should be in the starting 11.

Also like we said earlier, it’d be nice to pay attention to Pep’s presser tomorrow and also to keep tabs on @Teamnewsandtix as they share leaked lineups before the deadline.

You can check out our: GW16 team news and injury updates: Mitrovic, Haaland and Wilson updates article, to see what Pep had to say regarding Erling’s injury.

If they do share the line-ups before the deadline, and Haaland isn’t starting, then it’d be nice to look at other alternatives like the players we’ve mentioned earlier.
